Nobel Prizes 2006


Medicine

The Nobel prize for Medicine went to Andrew Z. Fire and Craig C. Mello for discovering a mechanism for controlling the flow of genetic information.

Physics

The Nobel prize for Physics went to John C. Mather and George F. Smoot for their discoveries supporting the Big Bang theory.

Chemistry

The Nobel prize for Chemistry went to Roger D. Kornberg for resolving the machinery that gives voice to DNA.

2006 is the International Year of Deserts and Desertification

visualisation of microscopic biology


Drew Berry, of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, presented a talk for the Vic division in 2004. The award winning animator has DVDs visualising microscopic biology using Hollywood 3D animation techniques. The animations are based on research done at WEHI. 2007 nominations are called for, for the annually awarded ANZAAS medal and Mueller Medal.
