Medals and Named Lectures

Two important aspects of ANZAAS are the awarding of medals and the holding of lectures. The two medals awarded by ANZAAS are the Mueller medal, named in honour of Ferdinand von Mueller, botanist and pioneer environmentalist, and the ANZAAS medal. These medals are awarded to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to their field and also to the communication and promotion of science. The named lectures of the Society, the Liversedge, the Joyce Allen, and the Giblin, provide an opportunity for distinguished scientists to present their views to a broad public. Lecturers are invited by Council, but members are encouraged to suggest possible speakers and occasions on which lectures might be presented.
