Antenna - 26Greetings young scientist, Dr Antenna here, making a special report from space. As many will know there was a comet visible in our solar system recently, and better yet, clearly visible from good ol' Terra Firma. The comets name is C/2006 P1 McNaught. The view of it up here was breathtaking. Unfortunately my camera was lost to me so you will have to look at some of the fantastic images taken of McNaught on this web site. A comet is typically made up of mostly dust, water ice and methane ice. When a comet get closer to the sun the ices start to melt and boil. The solar wind pushes the melted and boiling water and methane and dust back forming the comets tail or Coma. And that is what you see when you see a comet, the actual comet core is hidden well with in the Coma and can't be seen. The comet core is around 300 meters across, the comets coma is around 100,000 Kilometers across. Good things do come in small packages, as they say. Comets orbit the sun as the planets do but are far more elliptical then the planets. To have a play with comet orbits here is an interactive page. http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/comets/comet_model_interactive.html This page also of interest - http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/orbits/ -=-=-=-=-=- Puzzle - Box Up Using the arrow keys move the black square to move the Red box into the Blue box. You can only move boxes from the inside. You will need JAVA active to play this puzzle
